December Hunt Hwy Updates

Work is currently taking place in the south end of the project, from Johnson Ranch Boulevard/Gantzel Road through Magma Road on Hunt Highway to construct improvements.

Current work includes utility work, storm drain installation and box culvert construction on the west side of Hunt Highway, with Hunt remaining open for travel, one lane in each direction, with traffic shifted away from the work zone.

The contractor has split this phase of work into two segments; the first from Johnson Ranch Blvd/Gantzel Road to Quartzite Road, and the second from Quartzite Road through Magma Road. The base course (bottom layer) of asphalt has been placed for the segment from Johnson Ranch/Gantzel to Quartzite Road. The final course (top layer) of asphalt will be placed once this phase is completed. Please note, that during placement of the top course of asphalt, drivers may be detoured back on the temporary roadway from Johnson Ranch/Quartzite to allow the contractor full access for final asphalt, utility adjustments and striping.

Contractor crews are currently working in the segment from Quartzite through Magma Road to prepare for and install concrete curb and gutter, and work is also taking place at Magma Road to excavate for and install a box culvert.

Over the next couple of weeks, grading crews are scheduled to begin preparing the subsurface of the roadway from Quartzite through Magma for installation of geogrid and aggregate base materials to prepare for paving.

Upcoming work also includes switching over the traffic signal at Coppermine Road to a new meter. During this switchover, the traffic signals will temporarily be de-energized; however, law enforcement personnel will be on-site to assist in managing traffic through the intersection. This switchover is expected to last approximately two hours.

Scheduled to begin the first week of January, Magma Road will be closed at Hunt Highway for crews to construct the intersection. Hunt Highway will remain open for travel during this work, but will not have access to Magma Road. Johnson Ranch and Superstition Views residents will need to use Johnson Ranch Boulevard to access Hunt Highway during this time, which is expected to take 2-3 months to complete.

As a reminder, speeds have been reduced through the work zone (25 mph) for the safety of nearby residents, travelers, and construction crews. Please obey traffic signage as it is placed for your safety.

Business and resident access is being maintained.
